When we highlight American franchises that have succeeded internationally, we most discuss food franchises.
It just happens that food franchises are often the most popular and easy-to-replicate franchise operations out there. The Franchise Direct Top 100 Global Franchise rankings offer proof that food franchises dominate the international market.
For these reasons, we were interested to read that Ace Hardware is planning to “spin off its international division”, according to Crains Chicago, which will feature “its own management team and board of directors”. Ace will be focusing on the Middle East, Central and South America and Asia. It is already ranked #13 on our Top 100 Global Franchises, with businesses in 60 countries but this new stand-alone company will provide new opportunities for profit.
This scheme has been designed in order to expand sales and growth for the franchise. Ace Hardware is one of America’s best-known franchise brands and has delivered home care solutions to home-owners around America. It will be interesting to see how this scheme works and if it helps them to crack them to top 10 and joins the elite of international franchising.
"For some period of time, we have believed that there is opportunity for substantial and sustained growth in our international business, both for ourselves and for our international retailers," Ray Griffith, Ace president and CEO wrote to store owners. "Undoubtedly, the world represents a large growth opportunity."
