No doubt about it! A franchise exhibition or show is a great way for potential franchisees to meet franchisors and to find out detailed information about a franchise or business opportunity.
However, there are a few key notes you should keep in mind when you are attending a franchise exhibition or show in order to get the best experience from attending the expo.
1. Keep an open mind!
Spend a few minutes writing down what you think might be the best franchise or business opportunity for you, but keep an open mind to the different franchise concepts you will encounter at the franchise expo. You never know what type of franchise might suit you when it is presented to you by a franchisor...
2. Know your Budget!Financial considerations will have a key part to play in your final choice of franchise or business opportunity. Therefore it is wise for you to clearly define what your business budget is before you attend a franchise expo. In this way you can prioritize what franchise concepts you are interested in finding out more about relating to your financial expectations… 3. Take a Notepad with you!
Now that you know what type of franchise opportunity you may be interested in and what your budget is, you should be ready for your franchise expo. Be sure to bring a notepad with you and jot down everything a franchisor says to you. Ask key questions, such as:Q. What type of training and on-going support is provided by you? Q. What are the initial franchise fees? Q. Can I speak to existing franchisees operating your franchise? Q. How long has the franchisor been in business? Take note here! Remember the main motivation for a franchise expo is to sell franchises! You should be aware of franchisors who "promise" you the best. Frequently these franchisors do not provide the best franchise package. Be aware of "sales pitches"; after expo "meetings" and "sign now before it's too late" comments! You should go with an open mind and return home with bags full of franchise literature and conduct your research in a more practical and comprehensive way, rather than signing on the dotted line at the franchise expo! The notes you take at a franchise expo will help you remember key points and contact names when you return home. After the expo, you should make a list of all the franchises you were interested in and then proceed to carrying out a more thorough research by contacting a franchisor for a one-to-one meeting.
