My grandmother loved Burger King. Right up until she died about 10 years ago at age 81, she'd seize any chance to have a Double Cheeseburger or a Fish Fillet. Most of my memories of her, in fact, involve her eating Burger King.
When I was younger, I thought it was strange that my grandmother was so infatuated with Burger King, but as I've grown older, I've realized it has something to do with a love for habit and consistency that is quite common in her generation. But even my grandmother's Burger King passion has been outdone by an elderly couple, Karl and Carol Hoepfner. The couple are such fans of burger franchise Whataburger that they've begun an intense odyssey with the hope of eating in every Whataburger restaurant in America. They've already ate at 233 Whataburger's, which puts them about a quarter of a way to the final total.
“I’ve been all over the world and it’s probably the best hamburger I’ve eaten,” Karl told The Today Show. “We eat every breakfast there and almost every lunch, although sometimes we go somewhere else for dinner.”
Today also report that the Hoepfner eat all but three of their meals a week there. It doesn't seem like the healthiest way to live, but it's working for them.
They've been eating Whataburger since 1963!
