Franchising came to Miami last week.
Franchise Expo South was held in the Miami Beach Convention Center and featured stalls from over 200 franchisors. Florida is one of America's top states for franchisors and Franchise Expo South provided a great platform for businesses looking to connect with new franchisees.
The Miami Herald spoke with many franchisors at the event. You get a sense of the confidence that businesses have in the Florida market, and in particular, South Florida. You also get a sense of the business hope that franchising provides.
Laid off from his foreman's job last June, José Cruz has turned his vision toward opening a franchise -- a venture that would combine his wife's cosmetology skills with his psychology degree, focusing on women and beauty.
For Cruz, it could be the perfect marriage of entrepreneurship and a proven business scheme.
"I'm open," said Cruz, 36, of Lauderdale Lakes. "I am looking for an opportunity to start something on my own, along with my wife -- anything that might have potential success."
