Hot Dogs Win Big at Fast Food Chains
The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council estimates that Americans eat 20 billion hot dogs a year. The hot dog is a popular item for nostalgia reasons, reminding consumers of backyard barbecues with family, picnics, and baseball games. The hot dog made headlines as a strong menu item on quick-service restaurant menus when Burger King launched its flame-grilled hot dogs earlier this year. However, hot dogs are, and have been for years, at the heart of the menu for Wienerschnitzel and Nathan's Famous, which recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. The hot dog allows for plenty of variation, an easily customizable portable dish that has made it popular with consumers.

Subway and Coca-Cola Launch Clean Water Campaign
Subway and the Coca-Cola Company have partnered for a clean-water cause marketing campaign. For every bottle of Dasani water sold in participating Subways by August 31, Subway will donate 30 cents, up to a total of $125,000, to World Vision, the largest non-governmental supplier of clean water around the world. A 30-cent donation is enough to supply clean water to one person for a month. The donations will be used to help construct a solar-powered water system that will provide clean water in Kenya for more than 1,600 people. Donations can also be made through Subway's FreshWater4All website.
