The Orlando Kona Dog Authentic Hawaiian-Style Hot Dogs food truck was wildly successful, and it has partnered with NEXT Franchise Systems to create the food truck franchise opportunity. The franchise plans to grow regionally throughout Florida and the Southeast before aggressively expanding throughout the US. The hot dog food truck concept could soon roll out to cities nationwide.
Quebec Fast-Food Company Buys US-based Kahala Brands
MTY Food Group has been seeking to expand its US presence for the last three years and has finally found the perfect match in Kahala Brands, the Arizona-based parent of Cold Stone Creamery, Samurai Sam’s and TacoTime. The Quebec-based food company signed an agreement to buy Kahala at an estimated US$300 million. The companies combined will represent nearly 5,500 stores and 57 brands, effectively doubling MYT in size. MTY Food Group intends to merge its other US assets with Kahala and keep the Kahala US headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Huddle House Signs Millennial Owner to Multi-Unit Agreement
Huddle House recently signed one of its youngest franchisees yet, 22-year-old Shameet Desai. Desai is a recent graduate of the C.T. Bauer college of Business at the University of Houston with a major in finance and minors in accounting and marketing. He was inspired to start his own business by his uncle who started his own family and immediate care center in 2012. Desai will be partnering with his aunt and uncle, Sameera Gujarathi and Dr. Ravin Talati, to open restaurants in Gainesville, Athens and Braselton, Ga. over the next three years.
Wendy's Drops New American Authors Track
Wendy's partnered with indie rock band American Authors to make a surprise addition to summer playlists across the country. Without any notice, Wendy's posted a video with an exclusive track from the band to the franchise's Facebook and Twitter. The new track is called "Right Here Right Now", and the single celebrates the recent launch of Wendy’s limited-time Bacon Mozzarella Burger. Semi-hidden references to the band appear in video spots for the Bacon Mozzarella Burger. There are also plans for a surprise, impromptu live concert for some lucky Wendy's and American Authors fans.
Friendly's Ice Cream Raises More Than $230,000 for Easterseals
Friendly's Ice Cream's company-wide 'Cones for Kids' fundraising campaigned raised $230,000 for Easterseals. The annual campaign supports vital services for children with disabilities, and Easterseals is an organization that provides programs and resources for individuals and families facing disability. The funds raised will go toward programs and services that will benefit 18 Easterseals affiliates with programs designed to help children with disabilities learn basic functions and master skills. Since the 'Cones for Kids' campaign began in 1981, Friendly's has raised more than $29 million for Easterseals and children with disabilities.
