Here’s news that will interest McDonald’s franchisees and staff all over the world, but especially in the UK. The Golden Arches have decided to offer degrees in business management via Manchester Metropolitan University.
Essentially, McDonald’s have decided to increase their commitment to employee training by introducing the course. It is a two-year degree in business management that will ensure, as the BBC reported, “that McDonald's employees will be able to get a nationally recognised qualification without leaving their jobs”.
The BBC added that the course consists of “classroom study, e-learning and training in the workplace.” Senior vice-president David Fairhurst said that “people no longer want to choose between jobs and education. They should not be parallel universes."
I think it’s a really exciting idea and hopefully the idea will be rolled out across America soon. It proves that the franchise is looking to improve the career prospects of its own staff while improving their own performance. It’s a win-win.
And if you can stomach lots of fast food puns, you might like to read Time magazine’s take on the decision.
