How Weinerschnitzel is Leveraging Mobile in its Rewards Program

One of the best ways to get customers coming back again and again is to institute a rewards program. The gist of these programs is: make purchases and get credit towards future purchases. There are those that use the old school paper punch card method, and those who are using cutting edge mobile technology. Weinerschnitzel is one brand doing the latter.

The hot dog franchise recently announced its mobile rewards program platform, which is available on both iPhone and Android operating systems.

How it Works

Wienerschnitzel Rewards lets members earn free food using a point system. It also offers mobile payment functionality, letting users pay for their meals directly through the app, and a location finder, which identifies the closest Wienerschnitzel location and its hours. The app also includes Wienerschnitzel videos and social media content.


To earn rewards points, users check in through the app at any Wienerschnitzel location and show the cashier a three-digit code.


What Customers Get

App users earn ten free points for signing up, and then earn one point for every dollar spent with each purchase. Once a member has reached 40 points, they will receive a free combo meal. Additionally, users will get a free Old Fashioned Sundae or Corn Dog on their birthday.

While only 24% of companies leverage mobile reward systems like this one, they’re a great way to connect with your customers. After all, nearly everyone carries a mobile phone, and it’s easier to remember than a paper or plastic loyalty card.

And customers are willing to use mobile rewards; in fact, 35% already do. That number would likely be higher if more brands participated in mobile reward platforms. Still, being an early adopter in this case could net you more market share.

Here’s how to succeed with a mobile loyalty app:

  • Advertise it heavily: in your store, on your website, even on receipts. Adoption is key!

  • Offer enticing rewards: freebies and BOGOs (Buy One Get One Free) will get best results.

  • Make the app useful: this may mean hiring a design firm to customize it to your needs.

  • Update the offers: match your promotions with extra points, the way Starbucks does.
