Today, April 19th, is a fascinating day. It’s McDonald’s Hiring Day across America.
The Golden Arches intends to hire 50,000 people all over the country over the next 24 hours. In all, by the end of today, their national workforce will have increased by 7.7% at 700,000 by midnight. Think of what a difference this one initiative will make to national unemployment register!
"Our total hires are similar to past years, but the goal of hiring 50,000 people in one day across the U.S. is unique. But these are not just seasonal jobs. It's a mix of permanent and temporary jobs," McDonald's spokeswoman Ashlee Yingling has told Reuters.
The purpose of the day is to try to change the national opinion around the McJob. These jobs with McDonald’s aren’t just short-term, badly-paid occupations. The new McJob, McDonald’s feels, is a career. A passion. A life.
Reuters also reported that “McDonald's said it and its franchisees would be spending an extra $518 million on wages and salaries for the 50,000 new workers it plans to hire.”
Hiring events will be held all across the country today. Visit your local McDonald's for more information.
