Larry King has built a fascinating career as one of America’s great interviewers. He’s stepping down from the Larry King Live show on CNN but he’s beginning an exciting second career in franchising.
King has been employed as spokesman and area developer for The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co, as Franchise Times reports in their new issue. They’re a pretty interesting franchise concept: they say their bagels have that authentic Brooklyn taste because the water is treated and purified. Customers can actually watch the water treating process while they wait in line.
Bringing in former Subway area developer Larry Feldman was a smart move, who believes The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co.’s struck gold by bringing King in to work with the franchise.
“For a company with one store, it’s unbelievable to have a spokesperson of that caliber,” he says. “I told (Fassberg) if you can do just half of what you say you can do, it will be unbelievable. ...I can’t think of another system that got a boost like that.”
If you’re interested in reading about Larry King, there are plenty of great anecdotes from the TV legend. But those who enjoy charting the franchise industry will find an interesting business marrying a forward-thinking concept and a high-profile spokesman.
