We’re constantly blogging about the global popularity of McDonald’s here on the Franchise Direct blog. Well, it seems that McDonald’s fans in Hong Kong are taking their passion for the Golden Arches to new heights.
The Daily News reports that starting in January McDonald’s franchises in Hong Kong will be performing onsite nuptial ceremonies in their restaurants. These weddings will include complementary McDonald’s food. Can you imagine having a Bic Mac for your wedding meal followed by a large Coke toast for the bride and groom? It seems a bit strange, but Hong Kong residents clearly love McDonalds.
"People said they'd dated here, or met here, and wanted to get married here…We see this as a business chance," said Helen Cheung Yuen-ling, director of corporate communications at McDonald's Hong Kong.
A sociologist explained that McDonald’s weddings stand to be popular because couples in Hong Kong no longer have the disposable income they once had and are looking more affordable opportunities.
If there's a downside to the McDonald’s wedding, it's this: the McDonald's weddins will all be alcohol-free.
