Subway didn't become the world's top franchise through an aggressive expansion plan.
Readers of our 2011 Top 100 Global Franchise Report will have noted that Subway took first place because it also sought to install new green units that made the franchise more environmentally-responsible.
News reaches us now that Subway has taken a new step to ensure the betterment of its customers. It has slashed the amount of salt it uses in its sandwiches.
In fact, it will look to cut sodium by 28% in its sandwiches. The federal government is looking to control the amount of salt that restaurants use and it's great to see Subway, America's biggest franchise, take up the initiative here.
According to Crains New York: "Subway, based in Milford, Conn., said the reduced-sodium offerings will eliminate 450 tons of sodium each year compared with sodium levels three years ago."
