Many people have dreams of franchising success. But few have attained them under the media spotlight of Sarah and Jared Greer, winners of "This Could Be Yours, The Great TCBY Store Giveaway”.
For the contest, TCBY gives away one franchise via an intense application process. We’ve highlighted the particulars of the franchise giveaway contest on two separate occasions and now that the dust has cleared on the contest, we’re looking into what lessons can be taken from it. Clearly, the contest offers an exciting national platform to promote a new franchise.
One thing the campaign proves is how essential social media is for entrepreneurs. The Greers clearly built their campaign upon a savvy, clued-in social media policy. They promoted themselves on Facebook and Twitter, as well as on the ground in northwest Arkansas, and built up a huge profile that way, receiving three times as many votes as their nearest competitor.
Having proven themselves both to the general public and to the business screeners at TCBY, the real work is now beginning for the Greers. The genius of this contest is that it doesn’t just throw anyone into franchise ownership. Beyond popularity, candidates must also prove their ability to run a successful franchise. The Greers own two businesses already, are prominent in their community and seem destined to succeed in franchising.
