Trends and Facts About Cleaning Franchises
1. The US Department of Commerce estimates that the residential and commercial cleaning industries currently generate $50 billion in revenue annually, with residential cleaning accounting for about $20 billion.2. The DoC also projects that within the next few years, nearly 80 percent of two-income households in the US will “outsource” house cleaning to professional service providers.
Though office cleaning has been the biggest share of the market at an estimated in 2007, residential demand is expected to grow faster and outpace the commercial sector.
3. The cleaning industry has several specialized segments that offer specific services, such as carpets, windows, upholstery, and even “green” cleaning. However, in 2006 interior building cleaning services, sometimes classified as “janitorial” or “maid” services, was the dominant sector in the industry.
4. Industry analysts expect to see the cleaning industry continue to grow at an annual rate of about 5.5 percent through 2011 and exceed $60 billion annually. The industry growth will be fueled not only by dual-income households, but also by the country’s aging population, which will require more household services.
5. Cleaning services have also grown popular because of the flexible scheduling and pricing plans that cleaning companies offer their customers – from daily to weekly to monthly and even one-time jobs – making it an affordable service.
6. The trend has fueled the growth of cleaning franchises, which have experienced tremendous success. Both Entrepreneur and Success Magazines have cited cleaning businesses, such as HCCA, in their top-ranked franchise lists.
A cleaning franchise offers several advantages over independent operators because of brand recognition; proven systems and success record; and marketing support. Some cleaning franchises even provide central call center operations, which can bring in many leads for individual franchise operators.
Investing in a cleaning business is a good bet on an industry that has experienced explosive growth that will continue over the next decade.
