Trends and Facts About Cleaning Franchises

1. The US Department of Commerce estimates that the residential and commercial cleaning industries currently generate $50 billion in revenue annually, with residential cleaning accounting for about $20 billion.


2. The DoC also projects that within the next few years, nearly 80 percent of two-income households in the US will “outsource” house cleaning to professional service providers. Though office cleaning has been the biggest share of the market at an estimated in 2007, residential demand has grown faster and outpaced the commercial sector throughout 2008 and 2009.


3. The cleaning industry has several specialized segments that offer specific services, such as carpets, windows, upholstery, and even “green” cleaning. However, in 2006 interior building cleaning services, sometimes classified as “janitorial” or “maid” services, were the dominant sector in the industry and enjoyed a strong run towards the end of the decade.
