Home to an emerging focus on franchise businesses and the economic boost they provide to economies, Brazil will attend this month’s upcoming International Franchise Expo in New York City from June 18-20 to promote the expansion of brands.
The Brazilian Franchising Association, Associação Brasileira De Franchising (ABF), is joining forces with Apex-Brasil to boost franchising in Brazil and to bring Brazilian franchise brands to new countries, including the U.S. and beyond, through the Brazilian Franchising Project initiative.
This initiative will also bring the ABF to New York alongside Brazilian franchise brands to attend the expo, representing sectors like cleaning service, food service, and health service. Some attending brands are the largest in their respective sector operating in Brazil.
Brazil’s franchise business network is expanding and the economy of this BRIC country is expected to see partial recovery after its 6% growth rate of 2007 took a dip, with its GDP expected to rise.
In last year’s Top 100 Global Franchises report, the Trends & Things to Watch section discussed how major sporting events are also bringing attention to Brazil’s growing general economy, including the FIFA World Cup which was hosted there during the summer of 2014. Coming up next year, Rio de Janiero will host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in August, which will then result in the torch being passed to Tokyo, the next host city in 2020.
Two industries in Brazil are particularly well poised for development as highlighted recently. In 2014’s Fitness Franchise Industry Report, Brazil is mentioned as having one of the largest fitness center industries in the world among five other countries, ripe for franchising expansion. Additionally, the Pet Franchise Industry Report 2015 notes that Brazil’s pet franchise sector is on the rise alongside other Latin American countries.
Also listed as one of the 24 countries in the world that specifically differentiate franchise businesses for legal regulation, including laws that regulate pre-sale disclosures, the franchise business model in Brazil is becoming a chosen route for companies to expand across the country and into other lands.
Following this year’s IFE in NYC, Brazil will host its own expo, the ABF Franchising Expo, an event focused on franchising in Brazil that’s been held for over 20 years. The expo will also take place this month from June 24-27 in São Paulo.
