Nation’s leader in men’s and boys’ hair care teams up with VFW Operation Uplink to raise funds for military calls home during the holidays

Sport Clips stores across the country will begin raising money this Sunday, October 18 through November 14 to support the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ (VFW) Operation Uplink, a program that offers free call days and calling cards for deployed and hospitalized American soldiers. The effort will include “The Biggest Haircut Day of the Year” on Veterans Day, November 11, when the franchise will donate a dollar for every haircut service given that day in its more than 600 stores. Donations for Operation Uplink will be collected through individual store events and on-line at SportClips.com in an effort to reach and exceed this year’s goal of $125,000.

“This is Sport Clips’ third year to support Operation Uplink. With the help of our clients, we’ve provided more than three million minutes of talk time for our military men and women during the holidays,” says founder and CEO Gordon Logan, a veteran and lifetime member of the VFW. 
 
“The letters of gratitude we receive from military families who were able to speak to their loved ones through Sport Clips’ gift encourages us to work harder to provide more talk time each year,” says Logan. “What we have done together with our clients has made a major difference and is greatly appreciated by those who have given so much to keep our country free.”  
 
Sport Clips is now the VFW’s largest single-donation “free call day” sponsor. Last year's goal of $100,000 was exceeded by more than $20,000, and afforded 152,000 holiday connections between soldiers and their friends and family members. The donation was also large enough to cover an additional free call day on Memorial Day.
 
Sport Clips was established in 1995 by Logan. The franchise is an official sponsor of Joe Gibbs Racing and a partner with several teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), and National Hockey League (NHL).  Sport Clips is the "Official Haircutter" of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; has been ranked an AllBusiness.com "Top 10 Franchise for Veterans"; is the largest contributor to the VFW's Operation Uplink free call days; and offers preferential pricing throughout the year to veterans.
