His efforts were rewarded with the title as well as a $1,000 in-store gift card and an Xbox 360 Guitar Hero multiplayer bundle.
Play N Trade Franchise, Inc., one of the fastest-growing video game franchises worldwide, today announced that David Briers has been named the first Play N Trade National Guitar Hero II™ Champion. He posted the top score of 584,024 points played on Free Bird at the “expert” level.
Driving 150 miles from Richmond, Ind. to the Lexington, Ky. Play N Trade, Brier competed with gamers from across the U.S. and Canada to win the championship title and grand prizes of a $1,000 in-store gift card and an Xbox 360 Guitar Hero multiplayer bundle.
“The tournament was a lot of fun, with great competition at the regional and national levels, and I’m looking forward to doing it again,” said the 27-year-old Briers. “Guitar Hero is my favorite game. I’ve been playing it since it was first released, and really enjoy the songs, which is why I play so much.”
The competition was held on June 16. All local winners received a $50 in-store gift card, a “Guitar Hero Champion” T-shirt and a customized guitar skin.
“Play N Trade is where gamers want to be,” said Ron Simpson, founder of Play N Trade. “Guitar Hero is our second all-store tournament, and the response was tremendous, with people driving long distances and even taking time during vacation to come in to the nearest Play N Trade for the chance to be crowned National Guitar Hero Champion.
“Our in-store tournaments generate a lot of excitement and participation because gamers can meet and socialize, show off their skills, compete with players from across the country and win great prizes,” Simpson said. “The tournaments also attract family, friends and other spectators who come in because the tournaments are as much fun to watch as they are to play.”
The competition was intense, with six other players scoring more than 500,000 points. Daniel Caylor, Alexandria, Va. scored 570,620; Michael Boreson, Kalispell, Mont., scored 567,182; Nicholas Papamichael, Walpole, Mass. scored 554,482; Robert Michaels, Kitty Hawk NC scored 545,763; David Jennings, Plano, Texas scored 531,870; and David Perkins, Chubbuck, Idaho scored 500,041.
