Born from a local credit repair company, Scott Been set his sights on the bigger picture and created CRN to be a national brand. Since then, CRN has been improving lives: both for clients and licensees. CRN is a high-value business with a focus on the success of licensees. CRN already has 130 national licensees since beginning licensing over a year ago with an established track record of trust and results.

In this Success Story Interview, we hear from Credit Repair Nerds founder, Scott Been and three of his licensees. Scott utilizes his background in the credit repair industry to expertly guide licensees as they embark on their journey of discovering a new kind of personal freedom. What inspired you to establish Credit Repair Nerds?

Well, great question and a funny one as well. It was all by accident. We already had a credit repair company locally and we were just chugging along building slowly like most companies do. 20-­30% growth, year over year. One of my competitors put a bug in my head about expanding nationally. I gave it some thought and said, hey, why not? So, we created the Nerd brand specifically for our national brand. And, here we are. We are now having 400% growth in our first 2 years. Absolutely insane and unheard of in this industry. So, all we did was take what we had been doing for the past 10 years and we ramped it up overnight.

Switched business models. Changed software. Obtained a few top producers along the way and now the ship has sailed. We always tell potential licensees who are interested in this business this… We are already on the cruise ship. You can either sit there and stand on the dock and wave at us as we set sail, or you can get on board with us. It's really that simple folks. We inspire people to become leaders. Winners. Producers. That's who we seek. We aren't interested in the employee mentality here at CRN. We want folks who are tired of working. We want individuals who despise their work environment.

Has the landscape of the credit repair industry changed since you began?

Not really. The CR industry has pretty much stayed the same over the past 10 years. A few minor changes here and there, but nothing dramatic. Technology has changed the game honestly. What used to take us 6 months to do, now only takes 45 days. So, it benefits us and our customers. It gives us a better brand name based on production and results and in return, our customers benefit at a quicker pace.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced and how have you overcome it?

Fortunately for us, we haven't really had any major challenges. Our growth in the short period of time has probably been the biggest challenge. Finding the right people to put in place to overcome the growing pains. I mean, just think about it. We started licensing over a year ago in March of 2015. We now have over 130 national licensees. We weren't expecting that kind of growth so soon, so obviously we weren't prepared for the onslaught. But, we got our legs beneath us firmly planted on the ground and we are off and running.

Tell us about the support that Credit Repair Nerds provides to licensees.

We provide unlimited support. Most of our licensees, once they have been through training and feel part of our team are usually super super grateful. Look, there has to be back end support or you fail and that is for any industry. When our licensees succeed, our company succeeds. I am personally a Mark Cuban guy. I believe in building people, not businesses. The people build the business. We provide the tools. Do we provide the work ethic? No.

That's up to each individual and how bad they want it. And it's not just corporate support they receive. We've created a VIP program within the company now, so any new licensee will be put on a team and they will be nurtured until they get the hang of how the business is ran. What that does to the newly signed up licensees, it makes them feel comfortable. We allow them to reach out to every single licensee within the company for help.

How long does it typically take to build a successful business as a licensee with Credit Repair Nerds?

Depending on work ethic and drive, we always tell new licensees this. If you aren't making $5k­-$6k per month within your first 6 months, then you aren't following our business model. And we say that because we provide leads to licensees who want them. As with any business, the beginning is always the toughest time. But, with us Nerds, we've tried to eliminate that success lag time. We have so many leads coming in right now, it's almost a no ­brainer to join our VIP program. But, to answer the question, most of our licensees are making some kind of income within the first month.

How competitive is the industry, how does Credit Repair Nerds set itself apart?

We don't have any competition. Now, I'm sure there are other companies that look at us as their competition, but they look at business all wrong. Most companies in this industry look at others as a threat. We don't. Honestly, we could care less what other companies are doing. Why? It's because we are too busy building our brand. While others are looking at us and throwing a hissy fit, we just laugh and chug along. When you are a pioneer, you get arrows in your back. That's just the way it goes. It's America. Competition is good for us. We learn from everyone else's failures. We polish up their mess ups, fix what they are doing wrong, then implement that into our business. I know, it sound strange. But, if you think about it, it's what visionaries do. They go where others are afraid to go.

What’s up next for Credit Repair Nerds?

More growth. It's just that simple. We will continue to keep the throttle down and build more of our licensees up. We will continue to create winners and producers. I mean, think about what we are doing. We've created a system that allows people who are tired of their jobs to just quit that job and become self employed. Once you are free from the shackles that is Corporate America, you then become free. At the end of the day, this is about freedom. Freedom away from the office gossip. Free from office politics. Free from having to answer to a “boss”. Free from the fog. Your future will depend on your individual work ethic. So, instead of making someone else rich, why don't you do it for yourself?

What initially attracted you to the Credit Repair Nerds opportunity?

Like many of your readers I wanted another stream of income and went to the Franchise Direct website. I narrowed my search down to Credit Repair Nerds and one more company. After I did my research it was a no ­brainer. 50% of Americans have bad credit so this is something you do not have to sale you just have to find the people with bad credit and those who are motivated to change.

Credit Repair Nerds had low start-up cost and being a business opportunity, the model is already proven. I could work from home and help people with credit issues turn their life around.

Credit Repair Nerds was very structured and had many ways to earn income. From helping people repair their credit to building your own team with recruiting bonuses and overrides. It was a another no­ brainer!

What has your path looked like since joining Credit Repair Nerds?

Credit Repair Nerds has exceeded my wildest expectation. I initially went into it saying if I could make a couple of thousand dollars a month that would be fine. I have been a licensee going on 4 months and have already exceeded that goal. My second month I was company sales leader and it has taken off from there. Please don’t get me wrong, if you are looking for a get rich quick scheme then you are looking in the wrong place. But if you want to own and build a business then this might be the place for you.

Did you have prior experience working with the credit repair market?

I did not have any prior experience working in the credit repair market. I was a loan officer and branch manager of a loan company many moons ago, so I had the basic understanding of credit. But the awesome thing about this company is the training is in place to make you successful. When you sign your licensee agreement you receive one on one training. To support that training you will have weekly webinars and company mobile phone app for ongoing training. Some of the most successful people in the company came in with no experience but they were eager to learn.

What is your favorite thing about being a Credit Repair Nerd licensee?

The easy answer is the money but it is more than that for me. I am a highly competitive person and I love seeing my name come across the company app acknowledging I have closed another sale.

Also, I love the fact that I am building my own business. When I am on the phone with a customer, I am not on the phone as a sales rep or an employee but I am on the phone as a Credit Repair Nerds owner. Each day as I grow my business, I am building a business for myself and my family.

What is the #1 piece of advice you received as a first ­time licensee?

When I bring a new licensee on my team, we create a sales strategy. I find out what goals do they have at Credit Repair Nerds. Do they want this to be a hobby, another stream of income, or their primary source of income? Once I find that out then I find out how much time do they want to dedicate to this business. I always tell them to get out of the house or office and go to where the fish are biting. The fish are biting at mortgage companies and real estate agencies. Find local mortgage companies and real estate agencies in your area and partner with them. They will send you their clients that can’t be financed. This is how you build your business.

Is there anything else you would to share?

I was in the same position as most Franchise Direct readers. I wanted another stream of income and came to your website. The website had so many options and I could not tell who was real and who just wanted my money. After doing my research and talking to Credit Repair Nerds, I found out this would be the best bang for my buck. This company has backed up all its promises it made to me and really surpassed my expectation. So I would suggest you take a chance like I did and you will see, if you put in a little work then your results may surprise you.

Btw, I was actually brought in by Jennifer Reynolds, she recruited me. Credit Repair Nerds sent my Franchise Direct lead to Jennifer. She reached out to me. What initially attracted you to the Credit Repair Nerds opportunity?

Joining a franchise can be exciting and scary at the same time. The fact that Credit Repair Nerds was so open about their experiences and what they had gone through to start this business model was key for me. They were open from the start which made me trust them more about the direction the company was headed. Also the pay structure is great and cannot be touched by other company!

What has your path looked like since joining Credit Repair Nerds?

It has been an AMAZING ride to say the least! I started thinking this was only going to be a part time thing for me, however I am happy to say this is my full time business!! I have learned and grown so much during this process not only professionally but personally. I have made great connections along the way and continue to grow my team and my bank account monthly.

Did you have prior experience working with the credit repair market?

I had no experience at all prior to joining. This is important to know because I can communicate with people who have done it for years. The only reason is because of the training I was provided.Not only do you receive personal training but you can speak to any licensee in the country to get different perspectives and ideas on what can help your business!

What is your favorite thing about being a Credit Repair Nerd licensee?

One ­word: FREEDOM!!! I don’t need to worry about the mundane schedules that everyone else experiences on a daily basis. I have the freedom to do as I please whether it be business luncheons to networking, meeting up with a prospective client, going to events to meet with Real Estate Agents and Brokers or a dealership to meet clients and have fun looking at the new cars. Sometimes I just have the freedom to be at home in my comfortable clothes and do emails and phones calls. You can’t put a price on that!!

What is the #1 piece of advice you received as a first­ time licensee?

Don’t quit or give up and you will see why! This was the best advice I received because it’s not easy sometimes but you have to keep a positive outlook on owning a business. I will never take those words for granted.

Is there anything else you would to share?

Some people are on the fence about joining and I have to say to just take that plunge. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOR THE BETTER!!!!

Things within the company have moved very rapidly especially with the leadership and support from corporate. I never doubted I would make money but wow way faster than I initially thought. It has spread like wildfire now that people know what I’m doing, there are so many people out there looking to make extra money, and change careers or looking to fix their credit.

Did you have prior experience working with the credit repair market?

I have never had experience in the credit repair market, I thought I knew some things but definitely not like I know now and still learning, but corporate makes things so easy for us, anyone can become an expert very quickly.

What is your favorite thing about being a Credit Repair Nerd licensee?

My favorite thing about being a licensee I would have to say for me is working from home and the potential freedom that I can already see becoming a reality.

What is the #1 piece of advice you received as a first­ time licensee?

The #1 thing I would have to say would be to be coachable and learn the system. The system works!

Is there anything else you would to share?

Last thing I want to say is that there is so much potential in the income that is in my control, but also that anyone can learn this business and have the same opportunity as I am taking advantage.
