Jeff Krentzman founded the BBQ Cleaner in 2006 as a fast, efficient and cost-effective service that can transform even the most grime-encrusted bbq into a grill that shines like new. Since then, BBQ Cleaner has successfully expanded to over 135 locations across North America. As the founder, Jeff does everything for the company and oversees every aspect of the business, so he is the perfect person for us to talk to about this profitable business opportunity.

Can you tell us a little about the history of the BBQ Cleaner?
Sure, we got our start in 2006 in Northern New Jersey when we were the first to bring this concept to the United States. We had studied its success at that point all around the world and felt confident we could do the same here in the United States. After just 3 very successful years in NJ, we realized how strong our business had become and felt extremely positive we could see others replicate our success in their own markets nationwide. Now, in just 6 years from initially offering this to the marketplace, we have over 135 locations across North America.
Unlike most of your competitors, the BBQ Cleaner is environmentally friendly. What does being eco-friendly look like for the BBQ Cleaner?
It's definitely something we are passionate about. Everything we use is environmentally friendly and biodegradable. We hear all the time from our customers across the country how thankful they are for our commitment to the environment.
Describe a person who would do well as a BBQ Cleaner operator.
It's a pretty difficult question to answer as we've now seen so many success stories from people with various types of backgrounds and ambitions. Some common themes we see though when we look across the board at everyone is that they all were looking to be their own boss, work from home, set their own schedules and take control of their financial future into their own hands.
What's the does the process look like for becoming a BBQ Cleaner operator?
We spend a lot of time with our candidates trying to determine together if they are a good fit for this. We look at things such as their background and strength of demographic the candidate is in. From there, we work to ensure what the candidate is looking to accomplish is also something we feel can be met. And from that point, they are up and running with their own business very quickly.
What's the biggest mistake you see from your incoming operators? How can it be avoided?
Don't try to reinvent the wheel. When you are lucky enough to get started with this, we lay out a pretty solid blueprint of what to do. We understand everyone's situation isn't apples to apples, but experience counts a lot. The track record we see when our plan is followed is exceptional. There's no reason to try to fix something that isn't broken.
What the #1 piece of advice you would give to someone looking to get into franchising?
I think for anyone looking to get into franchising as a whole I would strongly recommend doing your due-diligence. Now a days, there are so many excellent tools and resources available for you to get solid information on a company you are looking at. Use those resources to your advantage. It's always refreshing when we see our candidates do a healthy amount of due-diligence and realize how strong our opportunity is for them.
What kind of support should an incoming business operators expect from the BBQ Cleaner during the start-up period?
Quite simply...a ton! And not just during the startup period. We really walk them through every phase of this business from start-up to when they are up and running. And on top of that they have unlimited support going forward. So any question at any time, they can come to us for the answer.
What is the outlook for the barbeque cleaning industry as a whole for the next year?
Very strong and exciting. As our service continues to expand more and more every year, it just continues to get bigger and our operators' success stories continue to grow. With how 2016 has already started with new locations opening up, we're very confident this will continue for the year.
What's next for the BBQ Cleaner in terms of expansion? What are your goals for the upcoming year?
The goals for 2016 remain very consistent with years past. We will continue to have new locations open up across North America with excellent people driving them, along with continuing to support the rapid growth of our existing locations to make sure they continue to reach their full potential.
