Each year, a team at Franchise Direct spends several months compiling and verifying information on hundreds franchises worldwide in order to produce the Franchise Direct Top 100 Global Franchises Ranking.
We judge all the companies on the same objective merits regardless of their size or country of origin. The two basic requirements for this ranking are that each franchise must be actively franchising and present in two or more countries.
The most important factors we take into consideration when ranking each franchise are:
- The number of units the franchise system has, including how many of those units are located outside of the franchise’s home country
- The number of countries the franchise has expanded into
- How much the franchise system grew in the past year
- The franchise’s stability and financial strength
We also take into account how many years the franchisor has been in business and how long it has been franchising. Other criteria include: if the franchisor offers financing, the training and support plans in place for the franchisee, and if the franchise received any awards or formal industry recognition in the past year.
Corporate sustainability, environmental impact, and corporate citizenship denoted by local and national initiatives engaged in by businesses have become increasingly more important to consumers in recent years. For this reason, we also take into consideration aspects such as the community projects or charity work the franchise is engaged in, and what procedures and policies have been put in place to make the franchise more environmentally friendly.
All the above criteria are scored and input into Franchise Direct’s proprietary formula from which the Top 100 Franchises are derived. Any ties in the final point totals between franchises are resolved by resorting to the higher number of countries operated in.
The Top 100 Global Franchises ranking is purely a research tool to aid any interested parties in comparing franchise systems. The ranking is not intended to endorse, recommend, or validate any franchise. If you are considering buying a franchise, we advise you to do sound due diligence, including personal assessment, extensive franchise research, as well as seeking professional and legal advice.
