Mr. Electric : How Mr. Electric Gave Dave Kirkwood More Family Time

This video features Dave Kirkwood, who has owned Mr. Electric of Wichita since 2016. An electrical engineer by trade, Dave explains why he was drawn to an electrical contracting business: demand is not going anywhere, and if anything it keeps expanding. He wanted something durable and future-proof, and electrical fit that goal perfectly. In the video he recalls visiting the Waco support center with his wife Rebecca, where meeting the corporate team and other franchisees is what truly sealed the decision for them. Dave also talks about the role his family plays in the business. While Rebecca does not work in the day-to-day operations, she serves as his sounding board, and her background in banking and interviewing has helped him hire the right people. Most of all, he describes the change in his family life. With better balance, he is able to coach his boys' baseball and football teams and simply be around more, and he shares that his kids like him much better now than when he was juggling two jobs. He notes how much that added time with his sons means to him, and how being present for the small moments has become one of the biggest rewards of ownership.
