My journey with California Tortilla began in high school when I worked there, and I instantly fell in love with the culture and business model. Even after moving on, starting a family, and gaining experience in the franchise world, Cal Tort never left my mind. I knew I wanted to open one of my own. When my husband, who has extensive operational experience, and I started brainstorming, everything just clicked. California Tortilla felt like the perfect fit. Cal Tort isn’t just fresh, fun, and exciting for customers – it’s an incredible place for employees, too. Our passion for the food industry, especially the fast-casual Tex-Mex space, led us to California Tortilla. Before joining Cal Tort, we operated a chain of 10-12 convenience store locations in Virginia, where we gained valuable experience in food service operations, overhead management, and food costs. However, we recognized that marketing was a challenge we couldn't tackle alone. That’s where franchising made all the difference; it gave us the marketing support we needed while allowing us to focus on operations. After exploring various franchise options, we ultimately chose California Tortilla because of their collaborative approach and willingness to engage in discussions about locations. From day one, we felt confident in our decision.
