Barber Shop Franchises Cater To The Modern Man

Who is the modern man? It’s an elusive phrase, but when we hear that phrase, an image comes to mind of a suave, debonair man aged between 21 and 45. Over the past few decades, our definition of masculinity has changed and it’s become acceptable for men to groom themselves and give their physical outlooks as much attention as women do. This new understanding of manliness has opened the door for a number of barber shop franchises to succeed.

Barber shop franchises have taken the concept of the traditional barber shop business to a new level. The traditional barber shop is typically independently-owned and operated. Growing up in New Jersey, as I did, nearly every successful barber was Italian. That’s not the case for the whole country, obviously, but there’s something about the familiarity of the traditional barber shop that keeps drawing routine-driven clients back. The franchising business model has allowed entrepreneurs to take the familiar concept of the barber shop and enhance it by trying to cater to the modern man.

To make this point, I’d like to discuss two different barber shop franchise models.State Street Barbers takes the traditional barber shop model and gives is an executive remodeling. Their barber shops have a retro, classic feel that will appeal to sophisticated men looking for a stylish updating of their traditional style. They are so good at delivering this classic business concept that Playboy magazine chose them as one of America’s top 10 barbers last year. This is perfect concept for someone looking to cater to that classic man

On the other hand, A Little Off The Top tries to truly maximize the experience of going to the barber shop. This business leaves the traditional barber shop squarely in the past. This franchise replaces the aging Italian barber with fully-licensed providers dressed in sexy attire. A Little Off The Top has no problem declaring themselves to be edgy and their services span the entire range of male grooming. They try to create a fun atmosphere that will bring men back again and again. While the success of the traditional barbershop is based mostly around the camaraderie created inside the store, A Little Off The Top turns the grooming process into a memorable and affordable experience.

The male market of 18-45 year old’s is one of the most lucrative demographics out there. These are people with disposable income who shape the opinions of those around them. Barber shops franchises cater directly to this demographic. These are just two of the franchises you can choose to invest in with this thriving franchise industry.
