When you’re smack-dab in the middle of your search for a franchise business opportunity, it’s all about you. It’s supposed to be.

But what if I told you that your decision to move forward on a franchise can (and will) benefit others? Lots of others. Entire communities, as a matter of fact. How would that make you feel?

A Decision That Sets A Lot Of Wheels In Motion

Your thoughtful decision to go ahead and buy the franchise you’ve been investigating is big. (Just ask your family) It’s life-changing...in a good way.

After you say “Yes, I’m going to buy that franchise” several things happen.

1. The first thing that happens is law-related. You’ll be hiring a franchise attorney to look over all the franchise documents-including the agreement.

The franchise attorney you meet with may very well be local. If that’s the case, you just helped your community. The lawyer you’re paying will spend part of your fees locally. She’ll pay local taxes, too.

2. If you’ve had to secure a small business loan for your franchise (most of today’s franchise buyer’s do) you may have applied at a local lending institution. If so, great! You’re keeping things local. And you now have a new local connection who may be able to help you with future money needs if/when you decide to expand your business.

3. Your franchise location will need to be built-out. In other words, your commercial space will need to be customized to the franchisor’s specifications.

In some cases, a local architect will be hired (by you) to draw-up the plans. Once that happens, local tradespeople will come in to do all the custom work needed. Electricians, painters, carpenters, plumbers, all sorts of people will be coming and going every day. And they’ll all be there for the same reason; to get you open for business.

(In addition, you probably used a local commercial real estate professional to help secure your space. He gets paid a percentage of the rent payments you negotiated with the landlord.)

See how much you’re helping your community win? (And you’re not even open yet!)

More Wins For Your Community

As you get closer to your Grand Opening, you’ll be putting things in place, marketing-wise, to get the word out about “The new business that’s opening in town.” In most cases, your franchisor has a plethora of marketing/advertising materials at the ready. All the materials they provide are designed to set you up for early success.

You may end up:

  • Advertising on local radio stations.
  • Advertising in the local newspaper.
  • Advertising on local websites.
  • Co-marketing* with other local businesses.

When you advertise locally, the money you’re investing to let your community know about your upcoming Grand Opening generally stays local. That means more wins/more revenue for your community.

*Co-marketing is free. The local businesses you do it with usually end up getting customers from the kind of joint-marketing campaigns that you’ll be proposing. More wins!

Ongoing Wins

You’ll be contributing tax revenue to your community every time you make a sale. Why do you think Mayors are usually in attendance at ribbon-cutting ceremonies when local businesses open their doors?

One more thing: Unless your franchise business is a one-person operation, you’re going to be hiring employees. That means that you’ll be a job-creator! I promise you’ll like the feeling you get from providing employment opportunities to your local community.

When you open a franchise business in your local community, everybody wins.
