A custom-outfitted van waits on the school grounds, ready for a swarm of wannabe musicians, with instruments and a rock music library that makes youngsters dream of stardom. Engineering activity lessons create solar-powered machines and robots that scale the school steps. From another location, laughter and French spill from the door.

Some of my own children’s favorite memories were after-school classes—curriculum that complemented their daily classroom studies. The experiences were a special treat and required nothing but their interest. It was truly magical, and the geek in you can make that magic come to life as a child education franchisee.

So Many Choices

Child education franchises aim to enrich children’s lives and make money for their owners. Some are specialized while others provide tutoring services or after-school care. But they all draw on franchisee skills while expanding young minds beyond the “three R’s.”

When my kids were young, our school worked with several franchisees who offered all kinds of learning opportunities from math games and tutoring to woodworking and mechanical design. Each was run by people passionate about their skills. You might find that your passion is calling and can become a lucrative business.

Choose When You Earn

After-school franchises might be on school grounds or at a site of their own, and most are tied into the academic year. In some places, school districts may run year-round or on a traditional calendar with summers off, but for specialty franchises, the work schedule can be very flexible.

If you choose to run an after-school care and tutoring program, you will be working when school is open near you, but a specialty franchise like art lessons can run in cycles of your own choosing. For example, if you want to offer classes once each week for a few months, you can find the franchise with a schedule that is convenient for you.

From Geek to Mentor

You might be young and passionate about teaching or you might be older, perhaps even retired, but you can share your love and skills with young minds, eager to absorb your lesson because they are doing it by choice, and you love showing them how!

Your franchise may very well become a guiding light for children who would otherwise be relegated to playing video games or watching TV. Instead, you can create a unique learning environment that partners with families while your knowledge and input provide additional guidance for your community’s next musician, engineer, doctor, or architect.

A child education franchise really lets your geekiness shine. In appreciative smiles, improved community, and income from sharing what you know, being a geek pays off.
