We’re delighted to announce the publication of Franchise Direct’s third-annual Top 100 Global Franchises. Yet again, these rankings provide the definitive assessment of international franchising.
I’d like to just explain some of the talking points in this Top 100 Global Franchises report. As regular readers of this blog would expect, there is no sign after extensive analysis that American franchises are stalling their international growth this year. Franchise Direct’s Top 100 proves just how essential a global presence is for America’s leading franchises.
For the first time in three years, there is a new franchise at the top of the Top 100. McDonald’s had ruled the Top 100 in previous years, but it has been overtaken by Subway this year. It’s another landmark achievement for the hugely-popular sandwich franchise, which took the crown only months becoming the franchise with the most units worldwide. Franchise Direct do not only assess the Top 100 in terms, but assess every franchise’s green credentials, and Subway has made great strides with rolling out green environmentally-friendly restaurants. Still, in spite of being dethroned by Subway, McDonald’s has enjoyed huge growth as it implements a more health-conscious menu across the world. It was incredibly close between #1 and #2
Outside of ranking the best global franchise, the Top 100 report highlights Brazil as one of the world’s most next big growth markets for franchising. With so much hype around China and India, it’s easy to forget that Brazil’s large population, rising middle class and huge infrastructural redevelopment make it an ideal place for franchise expansion.
The report also discusses the automotive franchise scene in China. You only tend to hear about US food franchises thriving in China, but automotive franchises could be a perfect fit for the country and its 1.3 billion citizens over the new decade and beyond. Car sales have exploded in China as consumers there receive more disposable income. Automotive franchises, including the four listed in Top 100, are certain to capitalize on this trend in the coming year.
All in all, the Franchise Direct Top 100 Global Franchises again offers the most comprehensive of examination of international franchising available today. If you’re looking to inform yourself on the latest trends in international franchising, it’s worth a read.
