So how will 2010 be for you? The economy might be trickling back to life, but ultimately we control our own reality. Innovation will continue to be a buzz word for 2010, and a franchisee’s ability to generate his or her own business will set the template for a successful year.
Dina Dwyer-Owens recently told the Denver Business Journal that loans to franchises were down 40% last year. That’s a sign of how steep the mountain is for today’s entrepreneurs. But nonetheless, we must persevere. Those that haven’t seen the downturn as an opportunity to refocus the thrust of their franchise business should do so promptly.
“The smarter businesses really saw this downturn in the economy as a chance to streamline their operation and make it better,” said Pete Meersman, president of the Colorado Restaurant Association told the DBJ.
The article also ties the success of the restaurant industry to unemployment figures. The Wall Street Journal is featuring an excellent video forecast of the year’s business predictions, via Fox News. They talk of a ‘jobless recovery’, which isn’t great news for restaurant franchisees.
