More Working Women Are Becoming Their Own Bosses
Hooray for the girls (or shall we say women)! I just read the article on www.franchisedirect.com about the growing trend of women franchise owners. It’s about time we take our place among the guys, and make our presence known in the franchising industry. Of particular interest were the stories of Two Men and A Truck that is a woman-owned franchise and a Candy Bouquet franchise in the California Valley. Each of the women owners of these franchises dared to dream big and achieved their goal of owning their own business. I would be interested in more such stories about successful women franchisees from your readers.

I am so happy to endorse Janet’s encouragement for women making their mark in the franchise industry. The thing that strikes me about franchising is that it is such a good format for service businesses, and there’s no doubt about it, women are pretty good at coming up with service ideas! How many times have you wanted someone to put a few shelves up on the bathroom wall, or collect your dry cleaning from your office and return it to you there, or deliver a gift with a difference to your best friend who’s just had a baby? There are franchises out there who will do all of these things for you now, and a whole lot more. Many of them have been started by women from their own kitchen or garage who wanted to build a business while having the time to attend to their family commitments. I’m sure franchising was the furthest thing from their minds when they got going. As someone who works from home, I can fully appreciate the flexibility of being able to manage a work and family life all under one roof. Though I don’t have the entrepreneurial bug, I am actively encouraging a friend who has it in spades. Not only that, but she has come up with at least three ideas for a business that would make me her first customer!
