It's the 10th anniversary edition of our Top 100 Global Franchises ranking!
Our annual Top 100 Global Franchises ranking is a snapshot of how a number of the most successful franchises in the world fared in the past year compared to the year before. The ranking gives special attention to franchises that have expanded beyond their borders and operate in at least two countries.
While longevity, unit growth and sales revenue numbers are important, the Top 100 is an attempt to go beyond the numbers. That's why research is also done into whether the franchises help prospective franchisees fund their franchise dreams, as well as how they give back to their communities via local programs or charity work.
The ranking is achieved using a methodology that takes into account a host of criteria, giving each criterion a weighted value. The data collected for each franchise is entered into a proprietary computer formula making the outcome as objective as possible. Data is gathered from company submitted data, financial filings, Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDDs), and published industry sources.

The ranking is accompanied by a report, which is broken down into three sections:
- The overview, where we break down the Top 100 in a number of different ways, including the Top 10, major themes among the Top 100, honorable mentions for those just outside the Top 100, and more.
- A section covering a couple major headlines from the past year in franchising.
- Our section on international franchising, with a focus on where franchises have been expanding to as well as places that are primed for franchise expansion.
- A chart showing the franchises that just missed the Top 100 for 2018.
