What attracted me to Wag N Wash was the business model in general. I wanted a business model where there was going to be an increase in the paw traffic… If I had started my own business, I would have used this model specifically.
Do your homework—research the brand, the industry, the competition, the projections and talk to multiple Franchise Owners. It’s also important to realize that owning a pet store sounds fun, that it is a business and you should be prepared to work hard to get it off the ground and running smoothly. The ongoing support we have received from Wag N Wash and from corporate has been awesome. I feel that I can pick up the phone, call my franchise services manager, and get an answer to something I need right away.
I researched different industries, ultimately deciding that the pet industry would be interesting and also provide a modest income. The financial growth over the last ten years was impressive, but more importantly, I wanted to enjoy the work and people I would be working with on a daily basis.
My staff is excited, and that’s so much fun. Also, our customers are great; everyone that comes in here whips out their phone to show off pictures of their dog. There is always a lot of laughter during the day. The response from the community has been amazing. We have some big-box pet retailers nearby, but people want to support local business and have commented on our customer service and the overall atmosphere of our store.
I opened my Wag N Wash location just as the recession hit. With some hard work, coupled with my passion for companion pets, I have seen 25% year-over-year sales growth. I now own a $1.5 billion store and work every day with my four-legged best friend by my side! Bottom line - best thing I've ever done.
We set our financial goals high, committed ourselves 110%, and we achieved our goals in less time than we planned. Our growth was organic and every day gets easier and easier. We now have two locations and can't wait to continue to grow our Wag N' Wash business.
