Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids, Isle of Man, UK

We always wanted to find a business which was unique and fun so when we stumbled across the idea of a children's hair salon. It seemed a perfect fit! We started to research into the idea further and contacted a number of franchisors to see if they would be interested in setting up in the Isle of Man, UK. After contacting Sharkey's, Scott got in touch with us very promptly to say he would love to expand outside the US / Canada and after our initial contact in January 2010, Scott visited the Isle of Man in April 2010 to help find a suitable location, provided floor plans by June 2010 and then after starting work on the salon we were open by November 2010! As a wise man once said 'So long as we stand side by side in the trenches then we will ride the crest of the wave together!', that is how we would describe our experience of Sharkey's as Scott and his UK Master Franchisor, John Fitzpatrick, stood firmly by us during our initial difficult few years but were still just as supportive to us after we had made the first European Sharkey's a success!

Roy and I purchased a Sharkey’s Hair It Is salon and opened in July 2013. It was a big decision for us and now a year later we are considering where to open the next! Ok, so it wasn't just quick and easy. But from the first conversation with Scott Sharkey you could tell he wasn't like all the other people we had spoken with. He is a dedicated family man first. We knew that by how proudly he spoke of his wife Linda and children. Then he talked of his business but in a fun way, yet he knows his business in a serious way. It was during the winter months that Scott sent us a picture of all these sharks standing in the snow. It was so cute. But a couple of days later, we were woken up by the UPS man ringing the doorbell. I got the package and my husband and I opened it to see a box full of large and small little sharks that were like the ones in the snow! Scott is a busy guy, but not so busy as to take the time for this! Now we're standing there laughing and knowing we have to be a part of this. How could someone have so much going on yet still have the time to have fun and make others laugh? A year later we understand what makes Scott tick. It's his family, a caring person, a businessman that involves himself with people and making those people's lives better by offering his business and himself.
