1. Hot dogs are second to hamburgers as the most popular food in the U.S. In fact, Americans eat over 20 billion hot dogs annually. That's 50 hot dogs consumed per person every year. Most hot dogs are eaten over July 4th weekends and during the summer. Hot dog franchise owners report never experiencing sluggish hot dog sales simply because everybody loves hot dogs!
2. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that nearly 40 percent of American adults eat hot dogs, french fries and other fast food every day. That means one out of three adults are purchasing fast food from Sonic, Burger King and other fast food eateries. It's also not surprising that the most ravenous consumers of fast food are young people between the ages of 20 and 39.

Location numbers of Sonic Drive Ins is currently around 3600, with that number expected to increase due to the enduring popularity of hot dogs.
4. Hot dog franchises don't need a lot of bells and whistles because hot dogs literally sell themselves. The most successful hot dog franchises offer more toppings than just mustard, ketchup and relish. For some reason, people love to dress up their hot dogs in a variety of condiments, such as roasted jalapenos, shredded cheeses, baked beans and chopped onions. These condiments are cheap and easy for hot dog franchise owners to make available to customers.
5. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that food service manager positions (restaurant owners) are expected to increase 11 percent over the next 10 years, a must faster than average increase compared to all other careers and occupations. The BLS further states the estimated number of openings for food service owners will hit at least 38,500 between now and 2028.
